HHN Tet 26 June 2011

Well we were small in number today but keen to compete and do our best.
This was a lovely one day Tet a fantastic little Cross Country course and the obligatory tiny pool!
Today Harry Goodenough and Becky Gaut were both in the Munchkin Tet class making up a team with Goodwood and Lord Lec. Over all they came in 6th place which was a great achievement.
We started with the shooting , Becky had a good shoot scoring 780 which put her in 4th place with Harry scoring 320 on his second competitive shoot.
After that we had the Cross Country both riding the same horse Pippin. I was given strict instruction that I must run beside Harry, this message had not got through to Harry as fast trots and canters were his order of the day and I was certainly not going to stop him falling off. He did have 2 refusals including the large water jump but finished with 1220.
Becky had a really great round cantering the whole way with no refusals , even managing to get him through the water and coming in with a clear round score of 1400.Well done.
The run was next with Harry doing his fastest yet, Becky had a difficult run at what she says is her least favourite event.
Lastly the swim was a lovely outside pool just down the road, a length was more like a Brockhurst width but Becky did really well clocking up just over 7 lengths.Harry had a wobble as he thought the pool to deep and managed 5 lengths.
Both did really well and kept the South Berks flag flying. This is definitely an event to remember for next year especially for those just getting going.

SOUTH BERKS STANDS THE HEAT.......

Despite blistering temperatures, South Berks members, ponies and parents kept their cool at the Wooland PC ODE on 26th June 2011 with both teams coming 2nd in their sections in the Level 3/ Novice class.
For the second time this season, Brittany Pearse and Mal-dot-com were outright winners, finishing on their dressage score. Huge congratulations to them: this partnership is new this year and building consistently.
Also in the South Berks Gold team were Charlotte Rowe-Jones who came 6th individually at her first event on a borrowed Finnegan who is standing in for an injured Doris. Considering Charlotte had never ridden Fin to a cross country fence before leaving the start box, her clear round was really commendable.
The Rosehill experience opened the eventing door for third team member, Ellie Burfoot, who was competing for the first time. A great dressage was followed by a clear show jumping and just one stop and an L option kept Ellie out of the individual placings. It was a fabulous effort and we look foward to future outings.
Emma Durcan produced her usual smart dressage, impressed us all winning an argument in the show jumping but had a disappointing time on the cross country course - despite which, she kept smiling and supporting her team mates: not an easy thing to do, so special thanks to Emma for not letting her hiccup spoil the day for the others.
In the three-strong South Berks Blue team, the Fleming sisters, Elinor and Victoria, were both in flying form, taking 5th and 7th places respectively. It was great to see Victoria back in the saddle after some weeks out with a broken arm.
Just out of the individual ribbons in this team was Helena Murray who produced the best dressage and a clear show jumping round but had one cheeky stop at the fence before the water. This was a pleasing result for Helena and Caspar who had an upset last time out so well done to them too.
All in all, it was a good day out. The kids looked smart and behaved beautifully quite apart from riding rather well too! I was very proud of them all and I'm sure their parents are too!

JUNIOR TETRATHLON REGIONAL COMPETITION

This weekend saw Ben Brown and Jax Dawes head up to Milton Keynes for the Junior Regional Tetrathlon Competition to represent the South. They were put into teams with girls and boys from other clubs from the South of England. Both have done exceptionally well against the best of the Pony Club Tetrathletes in the UK. On Saturday they had the shoot where Ben shot 840 and Jax came in with 800.They then went on to the swim where both broke their own personal bests with Ben doing 7.3 lengths and Jax 7.5. In the evening there was a big social event which by the sounds of it was enjoyed by all. Today in the pouring rain (I picked the wrong day to go up) they had the ride and the run. The ride was a big full up 3ft course that challenged all competitors.Ben went first on Owen had a good sensible ride scoring 538 . Jax rode Anna Goodenoughs horse Summer who both got round in an admirable fashion seeing as they had not been partnered before. She had a score of 544.For those who know the Tet scoring ,only a handful scored 1400.Courses are now going to get more challenging to make 1400 scores harder to achieve. The run was a traditional Tet course on the edge of fields up and down and with the added attraction of driving rain! Both although disappointed ran as well as I have seen them run in difficult conditions.Ben did the 1500 metre in 7.07 and Jax in 7.51. In their teams they all did well with the boys team coming 7th and the girls 14th. Congratulations to them both this was their first time at this level and they did South Berks proud in performances and in the way they fitted into their teams.

ODE TWESELDOWN

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

To the Open team of Biz Dance (6th Individually) with Cookie, Molly Mc Nickle and Konan and Annaliese Turnbull and George. A great team effort all going clear cross country with only some time penalties to add, also good dressage scores with Biz and Molly scoring belown 30. The show jumping remained up to height as in the other classes but all kept their cool and rode positive rounds.

The Intermediates also had a positive day with Rhia and Piggy going double clear, Justin and Edith also clear XC and Matt an unlucky 20 penalties at the coffin fence. Unfortunately Frodo was not feeling up to XC and Piers withdrew before this phase.

It was also a good day for some of our Novices, Brittany Pearse and Malcom finished 7th in their arena, Alex Dance also went clear XC with Artex, whilst Melissa Dawes was pleased with Buddy at his first one day event. Hellena Murray and Caspar had a good clear round the 'full-up' show jumping. Best wishes to Ben Brown who had a tumble on the hard ground in the show jump warm up.

Well Done!

Caroline.

NEW FOREST TET

What a fantastic weekend for South Berks competitors not only for fun had but in results as well. Not only have the usual suspects done well and broken their records but we have a whole new group of winners coming through the ranks.

Intermediates
Justin Brown pushed himself to the limit again , getting best run ,best shoot and best swim and coming 1st in the class

Junior Boys
Ben Brown is determined not to be outdone by his brother picked up best shoot with a score of 920 (highest score of the day) with solid scores over all the disciplines coming 2nd in the class.

Junior Girls
Jax Dawes had a very mixed competition having a difficult ride on the first day but picking it up on second day with a great swim and breaking her own record on the run.

Mini Boys
Stephen Webber took the bull by the horns and attacked the whole thing with determination coming 5th and 2nd in his mixed team.

Mini Girls
Hannah Webber in true Webber fashion flew round the cross country course scoring 1340 with very creditable scores in the other disciplines. She was in a big class and came in 7th in a mixed team.

Mixed Mini Triathlon
We had a new team in this class made up of Chloe Brown,Becky Gaut,Mayon Northway-Young and Joe Goodenough. These four put in great performances all round coming 4th as a team and Becky picking up best shoot. Harry Goodenough had just moved up to this class and was shooting for the first time had a good day in a mixed team coming 6th.

Super Mini Triathlon
Zoe Webber did really well at all the elements coming in 18th.
Rory Hodge was showing his determination with a great run and coming 7th

Parents Team
This was Anna Young, Anna Goodenough , Andrew Dawes and Brian Goodenough coming in 4th as a team Anna Young did a great ride at her first Tet coming in 4th. Anna Goodenough had a stoic swim even though she was suffering with a cold. Andrew Dawes wants every one to know he was best shot. And the run the least said the better , my time and Justin's are getting further apart at too quick a rate.

On top of this a lot of our party entered the hunter trials with some good clear rounds. Notably Melissa Dawes who did not do the Tet but had a really well controlled ride and went clear.
Loads of our minis did the 1ft 6 course including Joe Goodenough who suddenly decided he could jump and flew round the course. And our youngest entry was Zoe Webber who is following the family tradition.

Well done to everybody who went and for all your help in making the weekend work. Thank you to Callum who all though not competing was a star all weekend with his support and help.

COOMBELANDS 8TH MAY

CONGRATULATIONS TO HATTIE BURTON a fantastic first place at level 3, great dressage and double clear!
WELL DONE TO JUSTIN BROWN a good 5th place at level 4 with Bradfield Edith.

HAMBLEDEN 15TH MAY

BACK IN BIZNESS!!

Very well done to Biz Dance and Cookie, nearly a year after her first Open at Tweseldown,(Cookie was then off for the rest of 2010) Biz had a well deserved 4th in the Open at Hambleden, helped by a great dressage score of 28.8 and a clear cross country round their imposing course with only time penalties to add.
Annaliese Turnbull and George were also doing their first Open and had a very promising start, with a pleasing dressage and only 4 SJ penalties, George jumped clear XC all the way to the second last where he tripped on landing and parted company with Annaliese but we are pleased to report that both Annaliese and George are ok.

INTERMEDIATE.

Pleased to report another good day out for the Level 4 team, with Molly gaining and 8th place, Justin finishing 9th and Piers 11th, Matt Riall and his young horse Button also made good progress over both SJ and XC courses that were up to height and testing.

WELL DONE EVERYONE - TWESELDOWN NEXT!

Craven Hunt Pony Club Show Jumping

Well done to all our competitors at the Craven Hunt Pony Club SJ at Newbury Showground.
Our team in Class 1 of Storm Ryan, Anna Worthington, Ella Seager and Olivia Lambert came 3rd. Also Olivia Holden came 6th individually in this class.
Some individual results were:
Storm Ryan 1st in the 60cm
Emma Durcan 6th place in 90cm

Alasdair jumps at Royal Windsor Horseshow

Alasdair and Tikker did well, but unfortunately had one fence down in the first round. There were only 9 clear rounds out of a class of about 32.
Tikker had never been to such a big event before but coped brilliantly with all the noise, people, army vehicles moving around, tents and flags etc.
The class ran about an hour late so there was a lot of waiting around in the collecting rings.
Although he found it quite difficult to concentrate in the arena he kept in a good rhythm and jumped well - it was unfortunate that a hind hoof just caught that one pole!
We are really proud of him.

April
