A pair to watch out for.... Annaliese and George!

Annaliese and George competed at Rosehill Hunter trials run by the Garth Hunt Pony Club on 11th October 2009 and won the 3ft class. There were only 5 clear rounds in her section of which one particular fence (skinny arrowhead in a complete open field) caused many problems. Annaliese flew round the course on her relatively new baby horse and was actually the quickest in the section. Well Done Annaliese .They also went clear last week at the Kingsclere Berks & Bucks Hunter Trial 3ft class.

Katie Mills on Mysterious Girl and Charlotte Rowe-Jones on Diamond Dorris both had lovely double clears in the 2ft 6 SJ Class but were unfortunately not placed in a very large Class. Charlotte and Dorris then went on to go double clear in the 2ft 9 Class and this time got placed 5th.

August 2009

Mini Champs at BCA Sunday 30th August 2009
Mini Dressage Team SBPC Sapphires - 8th -

The South Berks Mini Teams had an excellent day at BCA on Sunday with some particularly impressive results from all three disciplines.

Horse Trials - Team came sixth, with individual scores for Elinor Fleming of 4th, Emma Durcan 6th and Elinor Fleming 7th - Both Elinor and Emma had double clears for SJ/XC and Katy Mills had a great first outing on Misty with only a couple of stops across country and finishing well.

SJ - Jax Dawes, Ella Seager, Anna Worthington and Helena Murray finished on 4 faults with double clears to Jax and Anna. Team came 7th.

SJ - Emily Taylor, Lydia Wauchope, Sophie Pulleyn and Jax Dawes finished on 16 faults with Double clears for Lydia and Sophie. Team was not placed.

Dressage - Sophie Pulleyn, Laura Misson, Sophie Seager and Jasmine Cullum came 8th as a team. Jasmine and her pony Milkshake showed everyone how it should be done by coming equal third in her arena! The team's 8th place was a wonderful achievement for such a young team where none of them have ever done anything like this before.

Dressage - Ella Seager, Anna Worthington and Helena Murray all rode nice tests but were unfortunately unable to drop a score as there were only three of them in the team and were unplaced but they made up for that disappoinment in the show jumping!

Well done to all of you - you were all brilliant.

Best wishes

Claire

Hampshire Hunt ODE at Rogate on 29th August

Charlotte Rowe-Jones on Diamond Dorris came 8th in her arena in the Open Mini Class ( 75cm ) with a double clear in SJ and XC, finishing on her dressage score.

Show Jumping Team

(Unfortunately Georgia Misson had to withdraw as Brew was injured)

Kate Turner riding Stanleigh

Rhys Miller riding Amber

Libby Bamforth riding Betty Boo

The event was extremely well-organised and actually ran early. We all arrived in plenty of time to view some of the horse trials competitors jumping the first course and then to get back to the lorries and tack up. The course was winding but flowing and the fences up to height but not spooky and as the event was on a surface it meant that the ground was really good and the children were really able to 'do their best'. This was especially important as Rhys had only just returned from camp but we decided that doing their best, and enjoying themselves was the theme of the day We were the first team on and so warmed up before the coursewalk and then got straight back on to go in. In the first round at 95cm all ours had clear rounds which gave the other teams something to chase. For the second round the coursewalk was timetabled for 1pm but as everything was running early by the time we got there it was over and the first tow teams were in. As we had gone clear we were 5th to jump so the Mothers had to rush back and get the horses whilst the children viewed a few other rounds. Much of the course had been reversed and, of course it had gone up too, but the most troublesome fence was a short strided double which many were having down. However going into the arena we knew we simply had to get fewer than 24 faults all told to be in with a shout. Rhys had an unlucky two poles, then Libs and Betty had a pole and just as they were coming to the last fence the photographer popped up and Betty ran out, so another 8 faults. It was all down to Kate, who managed a brilliant steady and careful round with only 4 faults from one pole down. We knew at this point that we could come at worst 3rd place so were very pleased. In fact the Sandhurst and Vine teams did really well producing the only double clears (only 5 out of 50 competitors) for the individual jump off. The Sandhurst won but we had ridden really nicely, and had such a good day we were really pleased anyway. Well done on such an excellent day to everybody.

PC Championships

Well done to Biz Dance and Georgie Frank who went to The Pony Club Championships in Draycott House Derbyshire, Biz and Cookie competed in the Intermediate Eventing Championship and Georgie in the Open Eventing Championship. Biz and Cookie came 8th in her section, finishing on their dressage score jumping double clear inside the time allowed, there were 44 riders in her section, and 220 competitors in the class, only 20 of the 220 managed to jump double clear. Georgie did very well over an extremely tough course, with an unfortunate circle on the XC she still finished 14th.

It was a long weekend, but worth it with both riders gaining valuable experience for the future.

July 2009

Well done to Elinor Fleming who came 2nd on the 25th July 2009 in Class 2 at the Garth South ODE.

June 2009

A busy weekend for South Berks!

Show Jumping

Hickstead Qualifier
Hickstead Qualifier

On Sunday our Intermediate and Open Show jumpers headed off to Warnham for the Hickstead Qualifier. Both Competitions were very technical and up to height and everyone put in a pleasing performance. The Open Team of Biz Dance, Laura Burgess, Victoria Cave and Hannah Turnbull were 6th Overall. The intermediate team of Sophie Shields, Katrina Harris and Rebecca Mayle struggled with being down to 3 members and despite a very good attempt by all over a tough course, they were not placed - special mention should go to Rebecca the only SBPC member who managed to jump two rounds on the day with no jumping penalties!

Checkendon

Emma Durcan and new ride Paddy were 5th in the 2ft 3 and improved on that performance in the 2ft 6 coming 3rd.

Eventing

Rogate

Sophie Clarke had a good day in the Meon Riding Club Open Class (90-100cm) coming 7th out of 24 with a 30.6 dressage a double clear jumping round and just 12.8 time penalties in the XC phase.

Avon Vale PC West Wilts Equestrian Centre

In the 80/75cm class Elinor & Victoria Fleming both did well but were not placed this time out in a very large class. In the 95/90cm class Rhiannon Honey was placed 8th out of 39 with a dressage score of 31.1 and a double clear with no time penalties.

Well Done Storm and Samba!!
Storm Ryan won both the 1'9" and the 2ft SJ competitions last weekend at the Garth South Show. (they also won the handy pony competition). She also won the 2ft class at the Old Berks PC show a few weeks before that. Also thought other members might like to know that Storm and Sam have qualified for the NPS M & M WHP championship at The Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead on 24th July

FANTASTIC RESULTS AT ROSEHILL ODE
All the South Berks members competing at Rosehill on Sunday did a great job for our branch:-

The outstanding result was Storm Ryan winning class 1B finishing on her dressage score and also getting best dressage - many congratulations Storm and Samba!!.

In class 2a, Elinor Fleming was =6 on Pippa and Victoria Fleming was 8th on Browneye and the South Berks Gold team of Elinor on Pippa, Victoria on Tigger and Charlotte Rowe Jones on Dorris were 3rd. Commiserations to Katie Mills and Chloe who scored a very solid 43.30 in their dressage but had a sticky time on the cross country phase. In Class 2B, Zoe Beasley finished on her Dressage score of 38.7 to finish individual 2nd. In class 3, Molly McNickle came 6th on her first time out on her new ride Mysterious Girl, again finishing on her dressage score of 40.40. Well done to you all and thanks to all your Mums as well!

CHIDDINGFOLD ODE 7th June 2009

A good day today at Rogate and fortunately the sun shone, thank you to all those who stayed for the late prize giving you were all so smart!

Class 2

Rosie Courtier Dutton dressage of 43.3 and 5th overall fantastic result on a new pony. Georgia Misson had a 50 dressage after a minor error, but sadly her chance of snatching a rosette disappeared after an unfortunate incident with a broken stirrup scuppered her chances but she is champing at the bit and we will see this new combination out and about soon.

Class 3

All did so well in their dressage with good scores all round.

Team

Sophie Clarke Ross 28.6 7th in arena Libby Bamfroth 34.3 Sam Courtier Dutton 36.1 7th in arena Rebecca Collett 35.0

Justin Brown - Individually placed 5th in Junior Boys Ben Brown - Individually placed 3rd in Mini Boys The Area 13 girls team, which included Rebecca Mayle WON the Inter-Area competition for the 2nd year running. The class in question was some 65 strong and the standards were huge. Best swim on the day was no less than 10 1/4 lengths in just 3 minutes. Rebecca improved her PB by 6 metres but still has work to do to catch up with the best !!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to all of you and we look forward to seeing you compete at Area level in the coming months.

Blown away by the results in the New Forest
Congratulations I think it would be true to say that we had blustery, stormy conditions last weekend at the New Forest Tetrathlon but as always, our members and indeed our parents did us all proud. One year, we will have sun!

The Parents team - consisting of Andrew Dawes (Shot); Adam Flawn-Thomas (Swim); Brian Goodenough (2nd best Run) were ably supported by Caroline Flawn-Thomas who finished the event with a faultless Clear XC ride over 3ft3in on Frodo to leave the parents team a very credible THIRD place.

Justin Brown and Ben Brown both won their respective classes with both boys taking best shoot and Justin indeed taking best run and swim to go with it.

Rebecca Mayle had a fabulous result in 2nd Place in the Intermediate class again with an excellent ride over the 3ft3in xc course, despite water lying after the most horrendous rain.

Piers Flawn-Thomas fought hard to get 4th place in his first junior year, despite "jumping the gate" and Michael Webber was rewarded with 3rd place in the mini boys tetratlon, with much improved run and swim and a clear ride.

Joe Goodenough and William Mayle giving their all in the triathlon were not placed but not surprisingly as the mixed class numbered 50+ mixed boys and girls and not split out at all.

Melissa and Jax both improved their PBs with an excellent ride from Jax on Bugsy, first xc as a combination, I think. Jax bringing her place up to 9th. Both girls being in incredibly large and strong classes did extremely well.

Last but not Least were are Brilliant U8s Biathlon Team of: Chloe Brown; Harry Goodenough; Stephen and Hannah Webber were placed 4th........ and there were quite a lot of teams !!!!

Hannah Turnball jumps at Royal Windsor Horse Show May 17th 2009
Hannah Turnball had a good day at Royal Windsor Horse Show yesterday despite being rained on a couple of times. There was 40 in the Pony Club class which was held on the new surface in the Frogmore Arena. Hannah went clear in the first round. There were 20 in the jump off which was over a twisty track, she had an unlucky pole in the jump off which was no disgrace as only 2 went clear.

H H Tetrathalon
Special Congratulation to Justin and Ben Brown who both won their respective Tetrathlon Classes
Another superb set of results from our very talented tetrathletes at the first full competition of the season.
Justin Brown again took best medals in all 3 disciplines, seeing an improvement across all 3 and topped it off with a clear ride Definitely a force to be reckoned with this season. His brother Ben held up the side by again winning his class with Best Swim and Run and again a clear ride. Melissa Dawes had a good result at 13th in the largest and most fought over class, in fact the junior girls this season are setting awesome standards, having a clear ride over the lower course shows a great improvement in Bugsy's xc over last season. Personal Best Swim, Well done....... Jax Dawes again with a personal best swim , shot and rode well and came home smiling in 9th place. Well Done to all of you
