OCTOBER

OBH Hunter Trials : 17 October

Today the minis competed at the OBH Hunter Trials at Rosehill. Rebecca Mayle, Georgia Misson, Emily Porter, Matt Hick and Rhia Honey all attempted the 2ft 3", all picked up a few faults on the way round - most at a tricky bogey brush fence. All enjoyed the class but sadly were not placed. Georgia and Emily presented for the pairs along with Matt and Rhia. Again all collected some faults over what was a testing 2ft 3", especially with the boggy conditions. Matt and Rhia hiccupped again at the Brush which they had faulted at when solo. Luckily everyone else seemed to fault here too and they still managed 6th in a well contested class.

left to right, Kristian Callaghan, Luke Faithful, Rebecca Mayle, Charlotte Shepheard and Hugo Flawn-Thomas

We were represented by a squad of five keen and competitive mini's at what was the last Tet/Tri of the season. Chiddingfold, as always held a well ran event, at which South Berks competed against very stiff competition, with excellent results. Hugo Flawn-Thomas performed well in all aspects to gain a worthy 2nd place Ind. Luke Faithful was placed 12th and Kristian Callaghan shot a superb 940 to give =best shoot. Charlotte Shepheard rode clear with 2nd best swim to take 5th Ind against strong opposition. Rebecca Mayle had a pb swim of 4.03 lengths taking 11th place Ind. The whole team and parents would like to thank Adam Flawn-Thomas who, at short notice acted at team manager. We are all looking forward to next season, with it's challenges and changes. We hope some of you would like to join us !

BCRC Show Jumping, Boomerang Stables : 3 October

Emily Porter, Matthew Hick and Rhia Honey at Boomerang Stables

Emily Porter, Matthew Hick and Rhia Honey had a great day at Boomerang Stables today at the BCRC Show jumping. The mini's did a terrific job and gathered much praise from the friendly adults competing for all 3 reaching the jump offs in both classes. In the 2ft class Matt was undoubtedly the fastest and made a terrific tight turn only to roll an unlucky pole at the next jump but still came in 6th as the fastest of the 4 faults. Emily got a terrific 3rd as did Rhia who came in 2nd, only beaten by a big horse on the long gallop in the jump off who just swallowed the ground gaining a second on her. In the 2ft 3, all 3 jumped double clears where the order was reversed slightly with Emily taking 3rd, Rhia 4th and Matt 6th. They are all looking forward to continuing competing throughout the winter, maybe you want to join them!!!

SEPTEMBER

Simon Daniels and Robert Misson

Rosettes for the boys at the SBPC Tet held on 25th September at Priory Farm. Seen here, Simon Daniels and Robert Misson - well done!

Bisley ODE : 12 September 2'9 Class

Another fantastic day for the South Berks Intermediates. We only managed to get one team entered, although on the day we had a further three individuals competing. Running as individuals Lily got yet another 1st and Grace Jackson was 4th.

The team comprising Georgie Frank (2nd), Emma Strang (2nd), Jo Sprules (5th) and Elly Taylor won the team competition.

What a fitting end to the season for a cracking load of competitors - a groan was heard when the winning team was announced!! This means that we are now serious competition!

AUGUST

Novice Championships, Wokingham : 25th August

The team of Lottie Crocker, Lilly Parkinson, Daniella Kilsby-Steele and Victoria Dance came 4th, and Daniella got individual 3rd, just missing out on 2nd by her collective marks! Well done to all!

Area Show Jumping : 7th August 2004

The SBPC sent two mini teams to Area (mini) Show Jumping on Saturday 7th August. There were 25 teams in total, only 14 got to the second round and 6 to the jump off. Our team of Ellie Frank, Emma Strang, Charlotte Shepheard and Annaliese Turnbull managed to finish in 5th place – Annaliese having given us all a horrendous fright by ploughing into the second last at high speed! The team of Rebecca Blackburn, Elizabeth Dance, Paige Harding and Annie Clarke finished 6th.

Well done to all – I think everyone would agree that we had a fantastic day.

The Area dressage teams of Emma Strang, Lauren Innes, Lily Parkinson and Camilla Beavon and the team of Daniella Kilsby-Steele, Alicia Beavon, Grace Bovill and Beth Robertson finished a very creditable 4th and 7th respectively at the Area 13 Dressage Championships on 30 July at Mattingley, against some very strong opposition. As over 20 teams took part this was an excellent result for the branch. Emma Strang (4th) , Alicia Beavon (4th) and Lauren Innes (7th) were also placed individually in their arenas. Well done to all !!

SBPC ODE, Priory Farm : 25th July 2004

SBPC dominated the 3'3'' ODE at Priory Farm today. The branch has invested over £5k in a new cross country course which would challenge any Novice rider and will provide a challenge to many SBPC riders over the next few years - on behalf of SBPC members (and I include parents in this!) many thanks to those who have invested the time and effort.

The SBPC team of: Lily Parkinson, Victoria Dance, Jo Sprules (we wish her well after her fall today) and Daniella Kilsby-Steele came first (in competition to 5 other Area 13 teams). Daniella and Lily came first and second (separated only by 0.8% - Daniella also got best dressage (74%). At this level SBPC must be dominating PC riding in Area and we wish luck to those going to Cheshire for the National Novice Championships.

JUNE

Tet Inter-Area Competition : Half Term
Congratulations to the under 12 years Mini Tet Team who won their age group at the Inter Area Competition in North Somerset at Half term. This was a splendid achievement for Charlotte Shepheard, Rebecca Blackburn , Ellie Frank and Hilary Scutter. Charlotte and Rebecca were representatives in the Area 13 Team which came second, so excellent again, as well as being a great weekend camping in beautiful countryside and a superb X/C course at Stockland Lovell. The Junior Team of Kayleigh Blackburn, Zoe Daniels and Jo Sprules were actually placed 6th as a team against stiff opposition. It was certainly a privilege to compete there and we would all love to go again!

Stilemans ODE 3'3 : June 27th 2004
Another fantastic result for Lily Parkinson today. 1st with Spot and 6th with Prince. Brilliantly done by Katy Haddock who was 8th. The team of Lily Parkinson, Lottie Crocker, Emma Strang and Hannah Bucknell did very well and came 6th. A great effort by all three teams over what was a big course for the newcomers at this height.

Thames Valley Riding Club ODE : 20 June
At Thames Valley Riding Club 3' ODE at Berkshire College of Agriculture two SBPC members did very well in what was essentially an adult competition. Katy Haddock riding Oliver Twist came forth and Daniella Kilsby-Steele riding Mr Chumliegh Warner (formerly known as Crofter!) came fifth. Daniella also won best dressage with 74%. Both would have been higher up the rankings if the very tight time for the SJ had been publicised - the event was run under British Eventing rules hence the timed show jumping. The cross country was over the Intro course.

Chiddingfold ODE, Rogate : 20 June
South Berks had a good day yesterday at the Chiddingfold ODE with several placings: The Blue Team was placed 4th out of 18 teams in the 2ft 3 class - individual results as follows: Paige Harding 4th individual, Rosie Riall 6th Individual, Rebecca Blackburn 9th Individual, Charlotte Shepheard 8th Individual and Annaliese Turnbull 5th Individual.
