SHOWJUMPING 2003
The Senior Showjumping teams have performed very well this year, and although I think it is safe to say that most of the members also belong to the eventing squad, and therefore are not showjumping specialists, one must emphasise that their performances have only just 'missed' qualification or top ribbons.
At Somerley Park, Hannah, Tessa, Leanne and Vicky (still very lame off her horse) made up the A team and Katy, Grace, Charlotte and Lucy were the B team. The teams finished 5th and 7th and jumped very consistently. Tessa went clear in both rounds, thus qualifying for the individual jump off. She really went for it and was unfortunate to have a fence down.
Festival of the Horse, Highclere
At the Hickstead qualifier the team were again unlucky to finish 3rd with the top 2 teams only qualifying. We also sent a team to Blenheim to compete in the Pony Club Showjumping, run alongside the Horse Trials there. Although it is a daunting atmosphere, the fences are a bit smaller and our team of Tessa, Vicky, Charlotte and Lauren Innes, whose first attempt at this level with a new pony this was, again jumped consistently well to finish 7th (rosettes to 6th!). Lauren and Tessa both jumped double clear rounds.
Area Showjumping - Somerley Park - 31 July 2003
This prestigious event was attended by seventeen Pony Club teams from across the country. Representing South Berks were Lauren Innes, Lottie Crocker, Lily Parkinson and Ellie Walls. After two rounds of 3' -3'3" only two teams were able to finish on a score of zero, South Berks and West Wilts. This led to a jump off for first place. Lily managed to lead South Berks to victory by doing a steady clear round on slippy ground, whilst her opponent had one fence down. A fantastic result for South Berks. Well done girls and a big thank you to Cressida for organising the team and course walks.
Our two teams of mini showjumpers were turned out immaculately to represent South Berks, many of them missing a day of Junior camp to compete.
The Red team of Alexandra Wicks, Charlotte Shepherd, Olivia Palmer and Rosie Riall were just pipped for a placing; however the White team of Annabel West, Rebecca Blackburn, Hilary Scutter and Elizabeth Frank gained an honourable fifth place. This was no mean feat considering there were over twenty teams competing.
It was a long day for them (although we did all enjoy a lovely picnic at lunchtime) and all performed with spirit and enthusiasm and represented South Berks with pride. Well done.

Intermediate Show Jumping Report
What a great group of junior show jumpers we have. We sent two Intermediate Teams to the Intermediate Area Show Jumping at Somerley Park. The team of Lauren Innes, Scarlett Harter, Ellie Walls and Lottie Crocker came a creditable tenth out of 25 teams, whilst the team of Vicky and Alexandra Dance, Lily Parkinson and Hannah Turnbull amazed us all by jumping three clear rounds each to win the competition for the SBPC. I was really impressed with the smart turnout of the ponies (and the girls!) - they were a credit to their Branch.
