NEWS
AREA QUALIFIER 2011 BON FLEUR
Due to the fact Area 13 did not have enough entries we went to Area 11 at Bon Fleur eventing course with swimming at
Maidstone. It was an early start to be their for 9am start.
Intermediates
In the boys section Justin Brown was obviously not happy with last years win at Area 11 and decided
to really show them what he could do, resulting in best shoot, best swim, best run and the only clear round
meaning he kept the Area 13 cup for the second year.
Piers Flawn-Thomas had a really good competition being 3rd over night after the swim and shoot. On the second day he picked up penalties on the ride which meant he did not quite manage to move upto 2nd place but kept his 3rd at the end.
Both Justin and Piers have qualified for Nationals in August so congratulations to them both.
In the girls we only had Rhia Honey this year who did great performances on all events.
I know she was disappointed with the ride as she picked up some penalties but she gave us
100% commitment in every phase and it was great to see.
Unfortunately due to 2 other girls from Area 13 who were equally as committed she just failed to get the nationals.
We also had a small committed group of others who came with us .
Juniors
Ben Brown carried on his enthusiasm for the competitions with big improvements on previous scores. He had stiff competition from others he had seen at regionals and managed 4th place.
Jax Dawes started off well in a big class having a good shoot and beating
her best in the swim and was 14th over night.Unfortunately she was
eliminated on the ride after 3 refusals which moved her out of the placings.
Mini Girls
Mayon Northway-Young was our only entry here.
On any other competition her shoot score of 960 would have won that phase but competition was
fierce and that only got her 4th equal. She did really well in the run and swim but the others being upto 2 years older
made it tough going. In the ride she picked up 2 lots of penalties but sailed over the rest of it,
she should be proud of herself as it was the first time she had jumped that big a course.
Mini Mini
Two entries here Joe and Harry Goodenough , which created a bit of brotherly rivalry. They both improved their shoot scores, Joe did a good swim and Harry did a personal best. After the run Joe had moved up into 4th with Harry like Mayon finding the age differences make it harder.
The ride how ever did not go as well as hoped , Joe struggled to get Pippin into gear and although trying hard to get round was eliminated.Harry still on Pippin took sensible use of learners but was eliminated at
the last after one refusal and then deciding it was not going to happen and went for the finish.
Well done to every one who competed especially Justin and Piers for getting to Nationals, time for some training now so i guess it means i better get running again as well.
Also a big thankyou to all the parents, and Callum for helping cook, for all your time and effort in making the weekend go well.

ANNUAL REPORT
This year was very successful one for the SBPC Tet and a steep learning curve for me taking over part
way through the season. But in that time I have seen the top levels at nationals and the minis
this October at the mini Champs which has given a real insight into where our kids should be
aiming for and how much they are achieving now.
This spring we had a very successful Triathlon held at Brockhurst School with success all round.
In May a large group of us went down to the New Forest where we camped for 2 nights.
This was a great weekend as much a get together for parents and children as a competition.
It is always a good one to do for parents new to Tetrathlon as you really get a feel for
the competitions and get to know all who is involved. Yet again our children did very well and
we had entries and good results at all levels.
Other events entered during the spring and summer were Wilton and the RA and
although we never fielded full teams individuals did very well.
In summer half term our two intermediate teams went down to Bicton which was their
first taste of what was to come with Area and National competitions.
In July we went out of Area for qualifiers as Area 13 struggled to get enough numbers.
Both our teams qualified in 1st place for Area 13 and beat a number of Area 11 teams in the process.
This was a step up in level from the interclub Tets and a number of questions were being asked
of them especially in the cross-country and at that point I was worried about the girl's team.
Nationals came along in August, my first time so I was not sure what to expect,
it was wet and muddy but we all had a great time.
And my worries about the girls were unfounded as they had all moved on through extra training
and sheer determination to get it right. Both teams deserved their excellent results (2nd boys, 20th girls)
and hopefully we can build on this for next year.
Unfortunately out Tri this autumn had to be cancelled due to lack of entries which does seem to be a
problem all round.
In October we took a large contingent down to the Mini Champs at Chiddingfold Farmers.
Our intermediates were much depleted for this but shone coming 1st and 3rd but what really
was great was to see how many we have coming through the juniors and minis.
They had results of best mini boy in Area 13 and winning teams in the Biathlon and 3rd
in the Triathlon they will all be a force to reckon with in later years if they carry on as
they are going.
I would like to thank June Mayle for all she has done for the Tet team in the past and the help she has given me since I took over.
Lastly the results have been helped so much by our trainers John Sharman (shooting), Bob Pinkerton, Adam Flawn-Thomas and Sarah Harris (swimming).Thank you for all you do.
TWO MORE TEAMS THROUGH TO NATIONALS

Congratulations to our two intermediate teams both coming 1st and qualifying for nationals.
Starting with the girls of Melissa Dawes, Rebecca Mayle and Rhiannon Honey.
Melissa gave a good solid performance for the two days unfortunately,
her horse Lottie was eliminated in the cross-country but showed real promise for the future.
Her run was the best I have seen her do to finish 8th as an individual.
Rebecca had a PB for her swim and we could all see how much that meant.
Individually, she finished 3rd only 160 points behind the 2nd who was much older than her.
Rhiannon has come on so much this season getting a PB in swimming and the shoot and an
impressive run at the end to finish 5th as an individual.
Justin Brown, Hugo Flawn-Thomas and Piers Flawn-Thomas all had clear rounds
on the cross-country which very few others managed, well done.
Justin had best shoot and best run and fully deserved his 1st place as an individual.
Hugo had a really consistent performance across all disciplines and was only just behind
Justin coming 2nd as an individual.
Piers after a disappointing shoot pulled it back with a
fantastic swim and ride. This was his 1st time running 2000m but he put in
a great performance and came 4th individually.
A big congratulations must go to Justin Brown , Piers Flawn-Thomas and Rhia Honey for their efforts , sportsmanship and success over the weekend.
Justin had a great competition with a good run , shoot and swim and then getting a clear round in the ride .He finished 7th overall after starting at 18th after the swim , this is a fantastic achievement as he is competing against the best in the country.
Piers although not in the top placings did really well, to become a contender at this level you need to break through the 4000 points which he was 8 points off doing, this was down to a great run and a swim where he beat Justin by two metres. He had his best shoot at this level and a clear round on Flash on a difficult course where there were a number who struggled so great result there as well.
Rhia is probably disappointed although she should not be as she had great performances in her shoot and swim and I have never seen her run as well as she did on Saturday.Unfortunately her ride was marred by Piggy deciding she has an aversion to jumps with flowers in them and she did not manage to complete the course. How Rhia tackled this disappointment was admirable and within a few hours she was planning how to get a South Berks team together for next year.
They all represented South Berks well from achievement to tidiness of turn out and all round attitude to the competition.
I would like to echo the thanks they have given to the supporters who went to watch, although I think they talked up my involvement they did this off of their own efforts and they should be very proud of them and it was a pleasure to be involved.
